NZ Antarctic Society Mid-Winter Dinner

The Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Antarctic Society is holding its traditional mid-winter dinner on Monday 21st and we are very happy to extend the invitation to members of the Meetup. Apologies for the late notice. PLEASE NOTE - the dinner costs $59 and you need to pay Roger McGarry in advance - please see the details below. Replies by Thursday 17th June!

The Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Antarctic Society is pleased to invite you to celebrate the winter solstice (on the shortest day) with our traditional mid-winter Christmas Dinner, where we will be thinking of those currently at Scott Base.

Our after-dinner speaker will be Barbara Bollard

Barbara is an Associate Professor at AUT and has an outstanding record of research success spanning geospatial science, ecosystem management and spatial ecology. Her research focus has been the identification, selection and environmental monitoring of Protected Areas, using remote sensing technology, such as UAV, to map habitats and landscapes for conservation and social planning. Her talk will focus on the Virtual Reality work around the TAE Hut (often referred to as the Hillary Hut) since its restoration. There will be a UAV, VR Headset and amazing footage on display on the night.

We will also have a Zoom call to Scott Base Winter Leader, Kitty Niven and her team. They will be especially excited by the announcement of the $344m boost for the new base buildings. So, think about your question to the winter-over team!
