A deep dive into AzAPI

Many people reach for AzAPI when AzureRM doesn't have the resource they need, then go back to AzureRM. But AzAPI does a lot more than fill gaps - it's what Azure Verified Modules are being built on, and there are good reasons for that.

This talk starts with the basics of AzAPI and quickly moves to what makes it worth using beyond gap-filling: keeping secrets out of state files, calling any API action, declarative retry for eventual consistency, and catching errors at plan time instead of apply.

We'll also be honest about what you lose compared to AzureRM, how the provider and module ecosystem are closing those gaps, and explore tooling that can generate module scaffolding from Azure API specs.

Stu Mace is an Azure MVP, a contributor to the AzAPI provider, and co-owns AVM modules that were among the first to adopt AzAPI comprehensively. He has had direct input into the provider's direction with the product team.
