[MTB] ROTORUA 2 DAY WEEKEND Ride - 2-3 May
Details
Join us for a weekend riding at Whakarewarewa MTB Park.
This is a 2 day trip: Saturday 2nd May and Sunday 3rd May, you can attend either, both days or even come down on Friday for three days of riding.
SATURDAY RIDE:
Current plan is a later start time - I will lead a ride from early afternoon (as my other half is running the Rotorua Marathon that morning) - you should be ready to ride at 1.30pm in the Waipa State Mill Rd carpark (probably finish around 5.30pm-ish).
Note: If we get another organizer along who is happy to lead an earlier ride time on the Saturday I will update details here, but for now work on the 1.30pm start on Saturday.
SUNDAY RIDE:
Will start earlier in the morning on Sunday at 9am (that’s ready to ride time) and finish around 2-2.30pm. Same Waipa State Mill Rd carpark unless advised otherwise
Manual and ebikes are welcome as I can arrange for ebikers to ride more bits and still keep with the pack together for the main part. (I'm on a ebike)
The pace will be medium relaxed (pace yourself to last the day but you should expect a few good climbs so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended).
We:
- Will ride a mix of grade 2, 3 and 4 trails (possibly 5s for those interested). I usually can offer trail options depending on people’s preferences and we can regroup at the bottom of runs.
- will eat lunch on the trail in the Sunday, so remember to pack yours that day, however since Saturdays ride is after lunch tteb trail snacks will probably suffice for the first day
- Can make use of the shuttles if they are running - $15 per lift or less with a pass - or e-bikes can choose to bypass shuttles or leverage them for a longer day
- will ride for 4 - 5 hours with rests, but can get you back to the carpark if you decide you've had enough
- will ride even if it's raining :-) although forecast is looking great for that weekend
- Can decide to recover at the Secret Spot post ride if you wish
Remember: your bike, tools, spare tube, helmet, lots of water, lunch and snacks.
Please book your own accommodation soon as Rotorua fills up on the weekends, and the marathon on the Saturday may also stretch available options.
If you have any questions please put them in the comments section as if you are wondering somebody else will be too.
