Step through the door at this city-fringe haven (Cocoro means ‘heart and soul’) and it’s not hard to imagine you are slap-bang in Japan. The serenity remains as you indulge in taste after taste of sea and land. There is but one challenge: what to choose? Will it be the extraordinary seafood dégustation, a feast of sushi and sashimi, or a selection of dishes from the innovative à la carte offering, such as the signature chawanmushi of Tora Bay pāua, the grilled kingfish wings or the Te Mana lamb with its unctuous balsamic miso sauce? Or you could ask chef Makoto Tokuyama to choose for you. Sustainable produce is key to his philosophy, and you’ll find his sources championed on his menu. The expertly curated beverage list allows for all tastes – the sake selection is impressive or choose from wines specifically matched with sushi and sashimi.
