As twilight settles over Orakei Train Station, the winter air carries the crisp scent of the sea. You begin your walk toward Mission Bay, following the curve of Paratai Drive, where grand homes sit perched like quiet sentinels above Hobson Bay. The footpath climbs gently, offering sweeping views that shimmer with the last light of day—harbour waters turning indigo beneath streaks of gold and mauve. Street lamps blink on, casting warm pools of light as your footsteps echo softly in the hush.Occasional bursts of laughter or the distant bark of a dog hint at life behind the high hedges. At the crest of Paratai, you pause to take in Rangitoto Island’s silhouette, dark and still against the horizon. Descending to Mission Bay, the glow of the promenade welcomes you.
The beach lies calm, and the chill invites a slow breath, a reminder that winter here can be quietly glorious.

Not open - The Pink PathNew Zealand Maritime Museum, Auckland
Greetings Everyone - Join us on Wednesday for our Winter midweek walks from NZ Maritime Museum along the famous Pink Path.
● Some words to Inspire you:
Auckland’s Pink Path glows like a ribbon of neon candy, winding boldly through the grey hush of a winter evening. The air is crisp, carrying the scent of distant rain and the occasional waft of roasted chestnuts from a nearby vendor. Underfoot, the fuchsia surface hums with reflected city light—vivid against the early twilight that cloaks the skyline. As you walk, silence is broken by the occasional whirr of a cyclist or the murmur of passersby wrapped in scarves and stories. Tāmaki Makaurau’s towers shimmer to your left, while the harbour flickers in moody blues beyond.
Despite the chill, there’s warmth in movement and memory—of summer’s echoes and the path’s persistent cheer. Here, even winter feels electric. It’s not just a walkway; it’s a vein of light through the city’s heart, where footsteps become poetry and cold nights pulse with colour.
