Walking from Lake Kereta out to Muriwai Beach feels like stepping from quiet wetlands into a wide, wind‑brushed coastline. The track opens onto the sand suddenly, revealing the long sweep of the west coast stretching endlessly north.
The walk along the beach is energising—black sand underfoot, surf rolling in beside you, and the sense of space that only Muriwai delivers. As you head north, the cliffs soften and the landscape feels wilder and more remote.
After the return, the perfect finish is a stop at The Hunting Lodge, where a cold drink and relaxed atmosphere round out a classic Auckland adventure.
