Auckland Hiking Group Pages

We are a fairly relaxed social hiking group with an emphasis on appreciating nature, meeting people, and talking as well as walking, exploring, and adventure.

The majority of our meetups are day hikes in the Auckland region, often in the Waitakere Ranges or a Regional Park about an hour's drive from the city, on a Sunday, hiking 3-7 hours at a medium pace (not too fast, not too slow) with stops at places of interest along the way, including a lunch stop.

Sometimes we have city walks, and sometimes we venture out of the Auckland region for weekend hiking and camping trips or multi-day tramps.

Our hikes vary in difficulty. Some require little or no previous hiking experience - just enough fitness and endurance to complete the hike as described with group. Some are more challenging for experienced hikers only. We try to describe difficulty as best we can, but difficulty is quite subjective. If you are interested to attend a hike but aren't sure if it is suitable for you, then best to contact the event host for that meetup and mention any concerns you might have.

Our meetups are usually for members only. Any friends are welcome to join the group and attend as members. Guests are generally not allowed, except children who are too young to become members can attend with parent if they are happy and able to complete hike with group. Dogs and other animals are not welcome.

We usually Meet at Victoria Park New World first to arrange Carpooling before driving to our hike destination.

Before we start the hike we usually gather in a circle to introduce ourselves and say where we are from (we are quite an international group). We usually take a group photo then too.

For safety and social reasons, we hike together as a group with stops at track junctions and other points along the way for the group to regather. However, there's no guarantee this will happen. Everyone is ultimately responsible for their own safety and preparing for each hike as best they can (study map and route description, etc).

And everyone who attends is equally responsible for looking out for each other and helping anyone who gets into trouble during a hike :-)
