Wednesday Walk: St Heliers Bay - Churchill Park Loop

Details

Greetings Everyone

On Wednesday evening we are planning to have a short midweek walk from St Heliers Bay beach via Achilles Point and Glover Park around Churchill Park and back to St Heliers Bay. This is our last Wednesday Walk for 2016.

Duration: Just under 2 hours (approx) including brief stops

Distance: About 7 km.
Difficulty: 2.0 on our 1-5 scale for day hikes. A slightly longer than usual Wednesday Walk.
After the Hike: Drinks, nibbles - probably at Mortons
Important Notes & Updates:

No guests. Please join the Auckland Hiking Group Meetup to attend.

Getting to the start:
Direct drivers - There is lots of parking in and around St Heliers Bay.
Public transport - A number of buses depart the city for St Heliers via Tamaki Drive e.g. 767 and 769

Carpooling:
No carpooling will be arranged.- If you want a ride or can offer rides from another location, you can mention this in the "Conversation" below and contact each other to arrange.

Time Table:

  • 17:45 - Meet at Vellenoweth Green.
  • 18:00 - Introductions and start the walk
  • 20:00 - Approx end of the hike.

Maps:
Exact route will be decided on the day.

Bring:

  • Clothing suitable for a Summer evening
  • Footwear suitable for footpaths/stone tracks.
  • Rain protection - maybe
  • Water

Notes:
(1) We aim to start the hike exactly on time, and will not wait for late people. Arriving early is good.
(2) It is safer and generally more fun to hike together as a group. We aim to do this with stops at all junctions for group to regather. However, there's no guarantee this will happen so prepare well for this hike in case you become separated from group.
(3) We will have stops at places of interest along the way.

Health and Safety Information:
Each person who participates accepts responsibility for making their own determinations and for their own safety, conduct and well being; recognising that there are hazards in attending group and outdoor activities and agrees to participate solely at their own risk.

See you on Wednesday - Ruth
