This meetup is for people who want to learn improv or sketch comedy, discuss the many benefits of improvisation OR for people who just want to meetup to enjoy improv comedy shows!

5-week course | "Livin La Impro Loca" with Matías Avaca, starting May 18th
Auckland CBD, TBA, Auckland, NZ🎭 "Livin’ La Impro Loca: Workshop to Show"
We’re back with a new 5-week improv course, this time focused on short-form games, multilingual play, and the kind of high-energy stage work that makes Livin’ La Impro Loca such a joyful chaos machine.
Across the 5 weeks, we’ll explore areas such as:
- Short-form improv games
- Multilingual and non-verbal communication
- Gibberish and physicality
- Rhythm, clarity, and game structure
- Audience interaction and stage confidence
- Ensemble awareness and support
- Performing with energy, precision, and playfulness
The course is designed as a workshop-to-show experience, leading into two scheduled performances of Livin’ La Impro Loca at Pitt St Theatre. Participation in the shows is optional. You are very welcome to join the course for the training experience only, even if you do not want to perform at the end.

👥 Participant Requirement
This is a 5-week improv course designed for improvisers who have completed at least an introductory improv course, or who have equivalent experience in theatre, performance, or improvised work.***
👤 About the Instructor
Matías Avaca is an Argentinian improviser based in Aotearoa. He co-founded Mabel Impro and the Auckland Improv Festival, and leads Laenye Productions, a platform uplifting Spanish-speaking artists. Known for bridging linguistic and cultural divides on stage, Matías has taught and performed in over 15 countries, leaving a lasting mark on the global improv scene.

Basement Theatre, Greys Avenue, Auckland, NZKia ora! Welcome!
These workshops are a fun monthly event, open for anyone to come along and do some improv in a low-pressure, friendly environment. Never done improv before? You're welcome to come along and try it out! Done tons of improv before? You're welcome to come along too! Last Saturday of every month. Koha is optional but appreciated. Read on to find out more

In our 2 hour workshops we play drama and improv games, create scenes with other workshop attendees, and learn about different improvisation and storytelling skills each month. What exactly we cover will depend on who ends up coming along on the day, but you can expect some laughs and a chance to embrace silliness and joyful failure.
There is no set charge to attend. We appreciate a Koha contribution towards our operating costs but you are still always welcome even if you're not in a position to contribute this month.About us: Improverished is a joyful improvised theatre company established in 2015. We are passionate about welcoming, inclusive creative spaces as well as community connection and sharing the fun of improv!
All workshops take place in Basement Theatre Maker's Space. This is located right next to Basement Theatre in the Grey's Ave carpark. If you haven't been before, hang out outside Basement Theatre and we'll find you there!
