Improv Scene Lab is a four-week course for performers ready to stretch their creative muscles, build scene stamina, and dive into a diverse toolkit of improv techniques. Each class offers new challenges and approaches—perfect for deepening your craft and expanding your range.
We'll explore scenepainting, monologues, split focus, multilingual scenes, narration, multiple timelines, layered realities, and more. Expect to play with a variety of scene sizes—solo, duo, ensemble—and explore formats suited to high-energy games, organic longform, and narrative improvisation. Every session is packed with tools you can take straight to the stage.
Each class stands on its own—but the more you take, the more you grow (and the bigger the discount). Spots are limited.

👥 Participant Requirement
This workshop is for those who have completed an Intro to Improv or Improv 101 course and are familiar with the core fundamentals (such as agreement, listening, offers, and basic scene structure).

👤 About the Instructor
Matías Avaca is an Argentinian improviser based in Aotearoa. He co-founded Mabel Impro and the Auckland Improv Festival, and leads Laenye Productions, a platform uplifting Spanish-speaking artists. Known for bridging linguistic and cultural divides on stage, Matías has taught and performed in over 15 countries, leaving a lasting mark on the global improv scene.
