🎭 "Improv Ensemble Lab"
A 10-week practice-led programme in Improv.

Improv Ensemble Lab is a course designed for improvisers who want to deepen their artistic practice. The Lab assumes participants are comfortable with basic scene work and group improvisation, and centres on ensemble work.

Mondays, starting February 2
6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Auckland Central (exact location confirmed after getting in touch)

Across the 10 weeks, we’ll work on:
• Character creation
• Storytelling and long-form narrative
• Magical realism
• Split focus and collective creation
• Physical theatre
• Musical inspiration and soundscaping
• Multilingual narrative and scene work
The emphasis is on process, experimentation, and working as an ensemble. The Lab is designed to grow as a cohort across the term, allowing shared language and trust to develop over time.

Brought to you by the creative mind behind shows such as "Hotel Sol", "Comedy World League", "Bonfire" and "La Catrina", performances that have toured festivals around the world.

Showcase
The term will conclude with a showcase. Participation is optional. Date and location TBC.

👥 Participant Requirement
This programme is for improvisers who have completed at least an Intro to Improv or Improv 101 course (or equivalent experience) and are comfortable with basic scene work.

👤 About the Instructor
Matías Avaca is an Argentinian improviser based in Aotearoa. He co-founded Mabel Impro and the Auckland Improv Festival, and leads Laenye Productions, a platform uplifting Spanish-speaking artists. Known for bridging linguistic and cultural divides on stage, Matías has taught and performed in over 15 countries, leaving a lasting mark on the global improv scene.
