So you reckon 5-to-10-year-olds can't be tough film critics? Rubbish! They know very well what films they like and why they like them. They are in fact, some of cinema's most demanding audiences.

Short films for children of this age are a major cinematic art form. All the big international film festivals, including the New Zealand International Film Festival, select and screen the best short films produced each year.

So we are going to show 6 award winning short films which are made especially for 5 to 10 year olds. These short films are great fun, but they are also specifically designed to help children respond to the themes and ideas raised in the films,

The picture above is from one of the short films, Andy - a Dog's Tale, Andy is a puppy who is rejected and has had a rough start in life. However, he finds a new start and real love, when, as a trained sevice dog, he is given to young girl in a wheelchair. This is a very touching. meaningful and inspiring little film.

We will give our kids the chance to talk about and draw some of their favourite characters, and to act the stories out. They are perfectly capable of letting us know what they like and don't like.

PLEASE NOTE: to run this event I need people to come along and help the kids talk about, draw and/or act the films and generally act as aunties and uncles serving drinks etc.

I can't handle 80 kids all by myself .... get in touch with me if you can help. Stuart 027 915 9805
