A refugee from Algeria becomes a teacher in a Canadian school after the tragic death of the previous teacher. Despite that, this film emerges a thoughtful movie that will make you feel uplifted.
Monsieur Lazhar explores grief and loss as well as the bonds that can arise between a teacher and students in tough times. If you are a teacher, or thinking of becoming a teacher, this film is for you.
The film was nominated for the best international film at the Academy Awards in 2012 and won high praise internationally.
“Very few films offer a moral grandeur, as well as a political foundation; very few films have such poised and brilliant performances from unknown actors.” (Sydney Morning Herald)
“Thoughtful, intelligent, elegant, touching, warm and with some splendid dashes of humor. It almost made me forget myself, which is weird, as well as something of a novelty.” (The Spectator)
Definitely a must-see.
