The Fault in Our Stars (USA, 2014, M)

This is the third in our series of films on the theme of young love. The challenge in films like these is that you have to challenge the young lovers and their relationship somehow, and it can seem contrived.

In The Fault is in Our Stars, 2 young cancer patients find a bond and a love in their suffering. They go "on an adventure" as Frodo would say, to find cures, not just for their cancers, but for their fears which causes them to love each other.

The UK Times wrote: "The subject matter — a pair of teenage cancer sufferers meet and fall in love — could have been mawkish mush, but there’s a sharp, abrasive wit and anger that tempers the tear-jerking with humour."
