This is the second of two African films that we are showing. Atlantics is set in Dakar, Senegal’s bustling capital, A young man frustrated by his boss cheating him and his friends out of a pay-check takes off for a better life in Spain. The love of his life, Ada, is crushed when he goes missing – until a miracle happens.
Behind the scenes, this is a film created by women and the director Mati Diop received a lot of acclaim for her work, She won the Grand Prize at Cannes for this film.
Look out for the images and photography, especially of the sea. The film is rooted in the reality of African migration to Europe and shows new insights into why it happens, and the effects on those left behind.
