A recent study shows that although self-promotion (communicating one’s past accomplishments and positive characteristics) is vital for obtaining career and educational opportunities, women feel uncomfortable when doing it, which limits their self-promotion success.

IamRemarkable is a Google initiative empowering women and underrepresented groups to celebrate their achievements in the workplace and beyond. Typically, iamRemarkable workshops run for 90 minutes by Google trained facilitators who “highlight to participants the importance of self-promotion in their careers and provide them with the tools to start developing this skill.”

As a newly qualified IamR facilitator i a bringing this opportunity for our community.

The most empowering thing about it is not just gaining knowledge on self-promotion, but really understanding why it is important and that women and underrepresented groups all over the world face the same problem. It is writing down and voicing out everything — personal and professional, big or small that makes you remarkable. I have seen women share things from getting a PHD before 30, to not committing suicide at some point in life, to being the breadwinner, to working three jobs and killing it. When it comes to #iamRemarkable, everything matters.

You mght want to scribble a few things down to share with the group, but just being in the room and hearing again the importance of owning your successes and positive characteristics and hearing women speak out can be
deeply overwhelming and empowering.
