About the talk:
As we all already know, we are living in an age of excessive exposition to information. Almost every day a new article, tool, framework, or technology is released and we as developers start to feel that we need to keep up-to-date or we will be replaced. Put on top of it, the marketplace desires to find “complete” full-stack DevOps developers. Without realising, we are putting a lot of pressure on ourselves and we are competing with ourselves to be these “super-humans” that can understand almost everything and also be fluent in transitioning between multiple tasks and contexts. As a result, we can recently see more and more cases of people becoming ill with anxiety and depression symptoms. Yes, that’s real and we need to seriously talk about it. Not just to point out what's not working, but also to try to find some answers on how we can get better from this sad reality.
About the speaker:
Diego Sieg is a senior frontend engineer that loves pixels, code, design, photography, traveling, food and coffee. He has been working with web and mobile development, data visualisation, and digital media for more than 10 years. At Xero, he has been working on the HQ Practice Client Team for about 2 years. Originally from Brazil, but living in New Zealand for about 8 years, he is now almost able to eat Marmite on toast without making an ugly face. He is a dreamer and thinks that we can still make a better world by sharing love and empathy.
Who should come:
Engineers of all levels and experience, People Leaders in tech, Human Resources and folk in tech.
