WordPress November Meetup - Bill Bennett, the Indieweb.

Details
Returning speaker, Bill Bennett joins us this month with a talk titled: Indieweb - why you should take more control of your online presence and how to use WordPress to do it.
What you post online should belong to you, not a corporation. That corporation can close shop or change its rules tomorrow: you may not be able to get at your own data.
The IndieWeb is all about you keeping control over your posts and data. Think of it as a declaration of independence. It means you get to choose who can see your material where and when. It is about building a presence that big business interests can't take away.
WordPress is an ideal tool for building an Indieweb presence. And the Indieweb is a great way to get more from a WordPress site.
Who is Bill Bennett?
"Not actually a geek, more a chronicler of geekdom. Still mainly a journalist, although I handle other kinds of writing."
Bill Bennett is a New Zealand technology journalist. He started in 1980 as a writer on Practical Computing magazine. He left the UK in 1987 to work in Wellington on The Dominion as Computer Page editor.
Bill is now a freelance technology journalist and posts often on https://billbennett.co.nz/ and twitter (https://twitter.com/billbennettnz) covering tech topics wide and local.

Venue
GridAKL are awesome and are consistently sponsoring our meetup venue, so we are in the same, beautiful place. Thanks @GridAKL and @ATEED
Auckland Central @ GridAKL (capacity 100 attendees). Public / roadside parking within 5 minute walk in Wynyard Quarter. There are roadworks ongoing around this area so bear that in mind when planning your journey.
There is no alcohol license at GridAKL, so we can all head down to the pub (Jack Tar) straight after the Meetup.
GridAKL can run multiple meetups on the same night - double check you're at the right meetup space, there is a chalkboard with directions as you walk in the main door.

Want to speak or suggest a topic?
We are always looking for speakers. Normally a 20-30 minute timeslot with questions, it's a rewarding chance to share your experience and knowledge in an open-community of like-minded people.
More information can be found on our Speaking at our Meetup page (https://www.meetup.com/Auckland-WordPress-Users/pages/20850801/Speaking_at_our_meetup/).

First time attending a Meetup?
If you haven't attended a WordPress Meetup before, bring a friend along and join us to meet and mingle with other WordPress bloggers, developers, agencies, students and community members.
We are a welcoming bunch of individuals who use WordPress in a range of different ways, so there are always good feedback and conversations happening.
