After the inaugural six collaborative singing workshops held in April and May of this year, Sonia Wilson and Alexandra Whitham are teaming up again to offer a second series of six Friday night voice and acapella singing workshops at Hypatia (Grafton). Alexandra is a full-time lecturer in Voice and Theatre for the Department of Performing & Screen Arts at Unitec. Sonia is a full-time musician, singer and music teacher.
This collaboration brings together Sonia's experience in Acapella singing, world music, sound healing and physical theatre with Alexandra's skillset in voice and speech for theatre and film, and the integration of voice and movement practices.
The aim of this beginner-friendly workshop series will be to introduce students to new tools for accessing their own creativity through voice, body and song, increasing self-confidence, listening and expressive skills, improving vocal agility, learning to improvise and aspects of storytelling.
Through a guided process of creative group exploration, participants will be encouraged to strengthen their physical and spatial awareness and connection, as well as learning about the voice, singing, world music and harmony.
Dates of the workshops in this 6 workshop series:
Fridays from 6.30 to 8pm on June 22, July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th.
It is not a requirement to attend all the workshops, though we (unsurprisingly) recommend attending as many of the workshops as you can to gain a broad range of insights as each one will feature different tools and musical repertoire.
This workshop series is open to students at every level of musical experience.
Places are limited to 25 and will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Cost for participants: $40/session or $30/session for those attending 3 or more of the 6 sessions.
