Gidjuum Gulganyi Great Walk, Hard, 4 Days, 42 kms, Full Backpack

The Gidjuum Gulganyi is a new "Great Walk" of NSW. Over four days it traverses some of the best preserved rainforest stands in the state as one jourmeys through Mount Jerusalem and Nightcap National Parks. We will be doing the walk in mid winter when the weather is usually better and the ticks, snakes and leeches are less problematic.

We will be based in Mullumbimby as it is the closest town to the GG walk. It is also an interesting mix of an alternative lifestyle and an old style Aussie town. The plan is to arrive at Mullumbimby on Tuesday 28 July. You can drive to Mullumbimby or get the XPT to Casino and bus to Mullumbimby which arrives at about 9PM. PLEASE BOOK YOUR OWN ACCOMMODATION IN MULLUMBIMBY on the night of 28 July and on the return date to Mullumbimby on 1 August as per your accommodation and transport requirements.

It is likely that we will meet at The Middle Pub in Mullumbimby for food and beverages on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday morning we can have a cafe breakfast somewhere then meet at 9.35AM at the River Terrace Bus Stop in Mullumbimby. VisionWalks Eco-Tours will pick us up at 9.45AM and drop us off at the start of the GG walk at Manns Rd/Unicorn Falls.

You will need all necessary lightweight camping gear ie tent, sleeping mat, cooking gear, breathable rain jacket and waterproof hiking shoes.

The summary of the walk is:
Day 1 Wednesday 29 July, 8.5kms. -Starting at Manns Rd Trackhead, after 3kms we can take the sidetrack to Unicorn Falls. We then continue through eucalypt forest and rainforest until we reach our first campsite at Sand Ridge Campground.

Day 2 Thursday 30 July, 16kms. The longest and most challenging day with plenty of ups and downs but the option to visit lookouts at Tweed Valley Lookout, Jerusalem Cliffs and Byron View Lookout. We then head into Nightcap NP and enjoy Doughboy Mountain View Lookout and Tea Tree Lookout before arriving at Yelgun Kyoomgun Campsite.

Day 3 Friday 31 July. 11.5km. There's more awesome scenery today as the walk takes in Wanganui Gorge Lookout. Then one ventures through rainforest and eucalyptus forest before arriving at Weeun Weeun Campground.

Day 4. Saturday 1 August 6kms. More awesome views today as we leave the campsite then a series of boardwalks and creek crossings before arriving at Minyon Falls. We can take in the lookout but need to be at the carpark at Minyon Falls at 11.30AM for the return minibus service to back to Mullum where we arrive at 12.15PM

The campsites-all three campsites have raised tent platforms suitable for two small hiking tens (one person in each tent) or one medium sized tent. It can be helpful to take string or lightweight rope to tie your tent down.
The campsites have compostable toilets and water tanks though you will need to purify, filter or boil the water.

The cost of this walk will be $81pp for the transport to and from Mullumbimby and $86.40 for the camping fee, therefore $167.40 per person. Please pay to my account by 2.5. 2026. Details are

Refunds for the transport ($81) can be made up until 1 July and refunds on camping are as per NSW parks refund policy-75% before 18 June, 50% after 18 June.

Re accommodation. As mentioned, due to differing accommodation needs and transport plans, you must book your own accommodation in Mullumbimby before the walk (night of Tuesday 28 July) and after the walk (night of Saturday 1 August if required.) I plan to stay in Mullumbiimby on both nights at the Middle Pub. The other recommended place in Mullumbimby is the Mullum Motel. Please note that bookings are not yet open at either place.
