Blue Mountains National Park Magic! From Scenic World to Ruined Castle Loop.
Details
We meet just outside Katoomba Train Station, at the Exit/Entry point on southern side (for those directionally challenged, turn right as you descend the ramp exiting the station and climb the stairs to the road level) at 9.30am sharp (train leaves Central at 7:24am from Platform 5 and arrives at Katoomba at 9.26am).
From here we will catch a bus to Scenic World (alternatively, you can drive to Scenic World where there are plenty of parking and facilities available).
Ruined Castle is one of the best destinations in the entire Blue Mountains!
The first leg of the hike involves taking the Furber Steps (LOTS of steep steps) all the way down to the Scenic Railway.
From here, we'll jump on the Federal Pass Walking Track, where we will hike through the beautiful rainforest and hear the amazing birdlife, passing historical attractions and informative signage along the way.
The Federal Pass Walking Track takes us all the way to the Ruined Castle Track, from where we will reach Ruined Castle, a bunch of large rocks that found themselves on the top of the mountain just begging to be climbed.
Once we climb them (some people may choose not to and that's ok) we’ll be rewarded with 360-degree views over the Jamison Valley as far as Wentworth Falls, showcasing the Blue Mountains National Park to the south of Katoomba.
We will then return the same way until we reach the Golden Staircase, which is the most challenging leg of the hike. Once we get to the top we'll be hiking along the road for the remainder of the trail, which is easy going after the stairs, and still quite scenic!
We will aim to get back to Scenic World by 4pm, from where we can catch a bus back to Katoomba Train Station and back to Sydney.
