We meet at the bus stop opposite Cronulla Train Station and catch “Transdev” Bus 987 to Kurnell at 9.20am.
When the bus drops us off, we are at the edge of Kamay Botany National Park and follow the Monument Track past Sutherland Point (named after a sailor on the Endervour) to Captain Cook’s landing place on 28 April in 1770. This is considered the birthplace of modern Australia.
In 2020, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook’s landing, 3 magnificent large bronze sculptures by 3 aboriginal women artists were added to the coastline.
We then follow the Muru Trail to the whale watching platform at Cape Solander.
From here, we follow the Cape Bailey Track to the Boat Harbour Aquatic Reserve and the start of the 4.5km beach walk that takes us all the way to Wanda Beach and we jump onto the Esplanade walkway all the way to Cronulla.
We're doing on a low tide day to make it easier to walk on the sand!
Following lunch at Cronulla we complete the 5km loop around Bass Point, Flinders Point and Gunnamatta Bay which leads returns us to Cronulla and the train station.
We will aim to finish by 4pm at Cronulla Beach, from which we walk to the nearby train station and can catch a train back to Sydney.
