Thornleigh to Crosslands Reserve Camping area and Crosslands reserve to Cowan.
These two days on the Great North Walk are really beautiful as the walk heads through Berowra Valley and up the Berowra Creek.

DAY 1 - Meet at Thornleigh train station and we will walk together through to the camp site at Crosslands reserve which is approximately 20 kilometres in distance.
Please make sure you pack light as this hike is advisable for experienced hikers because day 2 is very challenging.
Crosslands reserve is a great place to camp just near the river and there are picnic tables and a toilet block.
There are no showers but I filled a bottle and poured it over myself last time I was there as the toilet block is on city water and swimming in the river is not advised.
You will need to book camping at Crosslands reserve so please do this straight away when you join the event. I have already booked my spot for the night of Saturday 21st (SEE LINK BELOW).

DAY HIKERS - Yes it is possible to do this as a day hike but you will need to organise an uber from Somerville Road to Hornsby train station, or walk 35 minutes up the road and catch the 596 bus.
Please plan your transport carefully if you do this.

DAY 2 - We will pack up early and head to Berowra Waters where there are some beautiful views, but this is a day for ups and downs with some serious climbs and descents, so pack light and make sure you plan your food well for this trip.
Day 2 takes us through to Cowan, where we can stop at the local cafe if it is open, but the trail emerges opposite Cowan Train Station, making it easy to catch public transport back to Sydney.

Distance/Grade
36km over 2 days - VERY HARD
Transport
Thornleigh train station is where we will meet at the start of the walk and we finish the walk on day 2 at Cowan station for the trip back to Sydney.

Please note

  • This is a full backpack hike, you should have all your own gear and be a competent hiker, prepared to stay overnight.
  • Yes you can join as a day hiker on either day, but you would need to plan your transport carefully.
  • Day 1 is challenging, but day 2 is even harder with a lot of hills, so please pack light and make sure you are fit enough to keep up with the group.
