Snowshoe Hike to Kozzi Summit & Car Camping at Thredbo – Kosciusko National Park

This is car camping, bring your luxury camping gear!

Lets summit Mt Kosciusko in Winter and camp at beautiful Thredbo Diggings campground by the Thredbo River. We will camp under the snow gum trees, enjoy amazing mountain views and dark winter sky.

Given this is snow camping & hike in winter, please come prepared with proper winter gear like sturdy tent, 4 season sleeping bag, sleeping mat, proper clothing to conditions, water proof shoes, good quality stove

Friday:
Try and leave Sydney as early as possible and drive towards Jindabyne. Both Birute and I will leave early afternoon and will drive to Diggings campground (You can arrive Saturday morning if you like). Please drive in day light and be carefully specially in snow, you will most likely need snow chains for your vehicle, see below for details. I will book campsites for the group.

Saturday:
Those who are arriving today should set up camp and get ready for the hike. Those who camped the night before will get ready after breakfast and we will drive to Thredbo Village and take the chair lift to Eagles Nest. This 13km return hike will take us to Mt Kosciusko Summit (Subject to weather conditions). We will need snowshoes for this hike, allow for approx. 4 - 5 hrs return. Once we are back to Eagle Nest, we will have the opportunity to warm up next to the fireplace and order some hot beverages. Lift pass fee applies, you will have to buy at Thredbo. We will leave the campsite at 9am sharp to drive to Threadbo.

Sunday:
After breakfast, we will slowly make our way back home whilst stopping at Jindabyne for some coffee and pies then back to Sydney arriving in the evening.

What to Bring:
Sturdy tent, 4 season sleeping bag, sleeping mat, winter clothing, balaclava, beanie, gloves, sun glasses, wet weather gear/clothing, thermals, drinking water, sunscreen and snowshoes if you want to hike in the snow. Also for the hike, pack snacks, lunch & water.

If you need to hire any gear, please contact Ski Co Cooma they are open past midnight in winter so you can collect the gear on your way to the campground.

Depending on conditions, we probably will need snow chains for our vehicles to get in to the national park. Chains can be hired from above hire shop or from Jindabyne. Check here for more information

Campground:
We will be staying at Diggings Campground Thredbo. Campground have drop toilet and river close by. I will book the campground for the group for Friday and Saturday nights.

Food:
This is car camping, bring your gourmet kitchen and luxury gear.

National Park Fees applies to enter Kosciusko NP, buy at park gate or information centre

Gratuity:
$55 for this event and needs to be paid at the time of RSVP via direct Bank Transfer to below account. Please note, there are no refunds but you can sell your spot to anyone in the waitlist if there is one. Gratuity includes campground booking fee, I will book the campsites for the group.
