Artist & educator, Carlos Rosales -Silva will visit SAMA this summer to install a site specific mural in our Great Hall as part of launch of Gateway Series, ongoing that will enlist contemporary artists to activate SAMA’s main lobby. Mural is titled” Pase Usted” -“welcome in”-comprised of two main arch shapes, one representing European rounded arch & other representing corbel arch, more present in pre- colonial architecture. A swirling blue motif is artist’s interpretation of similar wave & plant-like patterns observed on vessels throughout our museum. Design spans centuries & continents-from Neolithic China (2000BC) to 20th century Mexico-revealing enriching connections across time, culture & place.
