Sean Michael Gaulager -Sub Anima(on view Oct 26-31) , is social sculpture, furniture object, & sound piece inspired by & created in response to, the environment at Canopy. Work pays homage to Michael Hsu Architecture’s adaptive reuse utilized in design of Canopy complex & interrogates role of art organizations, in development projects. Benches in common areas of Canopy are constructed from slabs of concrete cut from walls of existing buildings to create windows where artwork will be displayed.This exhibition represents these latest energies in physical form as transparent replica in clear epoxy resin.An exact one-to-one copy of bench on what has spent countless hours sitting & conversing with other artists, poets, musicians, strangers,friends & probably some adversaries.At exhibition opening, attendees are invited to sit on sculptures for conversations-will be recorded & incorporated into an abstracted sound piece for Soundscapes series that plays outside gallery at night.
