From Laura Rathe Fine Art:
"Laura Rathe Fine Art is pleased to present Elsewhere, a group exhibition featuring works by Kevin Gillentine, Sandrine Kern, Chris Wood, and Mandy Racine. Rooted in the enduring connection between nature, memory, and place, Elsewhere unites four distinct artistic voices through works that transport viewers beyond the present moment. Whether through tranquil landscapes, ethereal abstractions, or stylized figures, the exhibition offers a quiet sense of escape, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and enter spaces where memory and imagination converge. Based in Louisiana, Kevin Gillentine is celebrated for his atmospheric landscapes that blur the line between memory and place, creating evocative works inspired by the landscapes of his native Mississippi. “I wanted the painting to evoke a memory or an impression of a landscape - not the actual picture.” After studying at Mississippi College and Memphis State University and working as an artist in New York's Broadway and film industries, he relocated to New Orleans, where he has established a distinguished career as both a painter and designer. His paintings are held in private and corporate collections worldwide and are sought after by collectors, celebrities, and leading interior designers for their timeless, ethereal beauty. Based in Spain, Mandy Racine creates expressive figurative paintings that blend abstraction with dynamic gesture, drawing inspiration from the Old Masters while reimagining classical composition through a contemporary lens. “Painting takes me to another place, my own special world inspired by the old masters & Baroque and Rococo imagery." Born in Scotland and educated at West Surrey College of Art & Design, she has exhibited internationally across the UK, Spain, France, and the United States, with works held in private collections worldwide. Her work has been recognized by Saatchi Art as one of its "Best Selling Women Artists of All Time" and has been featured in prominent settings, including the luxury suites at Fouquet's New York Hotel. UK based artist, Chris Wood creates innovative light-based works that use optical materials, including NASA-developed dichroic glass, to transform light into dynamic, ever-changing experiences inspired by the natural world. After studying Furniture Design at Middlesex University and glass at the Royal College of Art, she has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and internationally. Her work is held in private collections and institutions, including the Shanghai Museum of Glass, and she has completed major commissions for clients such as Fendi, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Rosie Maternity Hospital. Currently based in New York, Sandrine Kern creates richly textured paintings inspired by memory and the landscape, using layers of oil paint, oil sticks, and cold wax to evoke atmosphere, emotion, and the passage of time. Born and raised in Paris, France, she earned her MFA from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, exhibiting widely at galleries and art fairs throughout the United States and internationally. Her work has been featured in numerous publications and is held in notable private collections, including those of David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Boutros Boutros-Ghali. The exhibition reception takes place Saturday, August 8, from 6–9pm at our Downtown Austin location: 907 W 5th St and is on view through September 3, 2026.
