Area512 is the name we’ve given to our newly acquired telescope storage and maintenance facility where we intend to hold Scope Clinics to assist our members who may have mechanical or operational issues with their astronomy equipment. Area512 will also house our astronomy lending library and will be the focal point for our loaner scope program. We also plan to offer training/educational sessions and provide a place to meet mentors if you are just starting out in the hobby.

You are invited to an open house this Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. at our Area 51.2. (White Mountain Foods, 3301 E 5th st. Parking is available in front of the building on 5th street, or behind the building in the fenced lot through the gate on Allen street. Follow the AAS signs to the side door facing Allen street.)

At 11:00 we'll have a session on the Texas Star Party. If you have attended, either this year or in the past, come and share your experience. If you haven't attended but want to know more, come and hear from those who have been there.

At 1:00 Outreach Committee member Jeff Murray will do a training for those interested in doing outreach--as a host, at display tables, at the welcome table, or as a floater. Jeff will repeat the training for whoever who shows up wanting it every couple of hours until 10 p.m.

As usual the telescope lending library will be open from 1:00 until 3:00 for checkout and return of telescopes.

Later in the afternoon Jim Choate will do some astronomical information sessions.

As he does during every monthly Area 51.2 Saturday, from 4:00 to 10:00 Greg Rohde will lead the telescope workshop for anyone needing help with building, maintenance or repair of personal telescopes

Around noon there will be food and drink for participants.

Plan to come out and see our multipurpose area and visit with fellow members.
