—The Village Voice
“HALE COUNTY THIS MORNING, THIS EVENING is a major work, and a richly rewarding one … the sort of film for which the word ‘lyrical’ was invented.”
—Vox
Post-screening Q&A with director RaMell Ross.
In his debut feature, RaMell Ross traces the lives of two young Black men over five pivotal years, offering an intimate and poetic glimpse into rural Alabama. In HALE COUNTY THIS MORNING, THIS EVENING, Ross challenges conventional portrayals of Black life and reflects on race, identity, and the fabric of the American South — finding meaning in the everyday and blending the ordinary with the profound. A film made up of moments, big and small.
