Quil and The Lambda Architecture
Details
Topic: Quil (https://github.com/quil/quil) demo by Sam Griffith
Sam will give a quick demo of Quil, a Clojure wrapper for Processing that allows for interactive dynamic visualizations.
Topic: Lambda Architecture given by Andrew Donoho (https://twitter.com/adonoho)
Nathan Marz's Lambda Architecture is guide for how to design Big Data applications. It revolves around the central truth of Big Data -- that Big Data sticks to your disks and cannot be moved. Like all architectures, it depends upon layers of abstractions: batch, serving and speed layers. This talk will discuss these layers and how I used them to design my Big Data application.
Nathan Marz, formerly with Twitter, is writing an early access book from Manning Publications, "Big Data," which describes the Lambda Architecture. Many of these concepts are fleshed out in his talk on SlideShare: http://www.slideshare.net/nathanmarz/runaway-complexity-in-big-data-and-a-plan-to- stop-it.
Thanks again to Capital Factory for giving us a space to meet at!
