SXSW Child Finder Hackathon
Details
We will be hosting a SXSW hackathon at our downtown Cloudera office. Join us for food, drinks, and access to our official SXSW event. You do not need to be a SXSW attendee to attend.
Cloudera, The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and Intel are joining forces to host the first-ever hackathon dedicated to finding new ways to help search for missing children. This is a challenge to allow you to push the boundaries of creativity, innovation, reality, and tech to build solutions and concepts that have the potential to make a difference.
• Discover techniques that can be utilized by NCMEC
• Leverage Cloudera technologies and publicly available resources to locate missing children
• Provide a path to scale those processes to help automate, escalate and find previously unknown connections between the data
• Find ways to speed up the process of to find missing children
Take a list of actual missing children and try to find them. Given the explosion of the types of data that are publically available, NCMEC can use creative and innovative ways to utilize novel data to help families and law enforcement find missing children. Because children can go missing for many different reasons – runaways, family abductions, etc. – each missing child may have a unique set of vulnerabilities, various techniques may be required to help find these missing children. For example, the method utilized to help find a child will vary based upon a child’s age, the child’s social network presence, whether or not the child is being trafficked, whether or not the child is a runaway or has left foster care, or if the child has been taken by a family member. How do you return meaningful but manageable amounts of data in the search? Can we automate the search? Can alerts be generated if something new and interesting appears?
Input: Images and descriptions of active missing children from (GITHUB LINKS to CDH, and missingkids.org)
Output: In the best case, any location information of a child and techniques to search for them manually and in a way that can be automated
