Sprites -- What are they good for? by David Bluestein II
Details
This month, David Bluestein II will be presenting "Sprites -- What are they good for?"
Join us for an exciting dive into Fly.io's brand-new Sprites — lightweight, persistent, disposable cloud VMs that boot in seconds with fast checkpoint/restore (~1s). Introduced in early January 2026 by Chris McCord and the Fly team, these "BIC disposable cloud computers" are built for safe, stateful code execution, especially agentic AI workflows.
We'll cover:
- What Sprites are (and why they're better than ephemeral sandboxes)
- Elixir/Phoenix integrations via the sprites-ex SDK
- Real-world patterns
- When to use them vs Nx/Fly GPUs or clustered Machines
There will be some live (robot-assisted) coding!
