EVENT FULL - Colorado Weminuche Wilderness 14ers Trip July 2025

This will be a difficult, multi-day hike for our experienced members only. During this trip, we will attempt to summit 4 - 14ers and will be hiking 48 miles with 9,000 ft of elevation gain. Your RSVP does not guarantee your spot until you're approved by the trip organizer and RSVP priority will be given to our active members. If you have not trained with us regularly, or successfully completed some of our past multi-day hikes, we will move you to the waitlist until we can meet you, train with you, and verify your physical ability and backpacking skills. This is for your safety and the success of the trip, not to be exclusive or rude.

IMPORTANT: You will be responsible for booking your own flight ($405), train fare ($145), Sandia Peak Tramway ticket ($34 - optional but highly recommended), Old Hundred Mine Tour entrance fee ($30 - optional but highly recommended), and paying for your own meals and misc expenses like souvenirs. Shared expenses of $225 to be paid to Carl by Friday, July 25th at 5pm via Venmo, Zelle or cash. Shared expenses include vehicle rentals, fuel, hotel stays, vehicle transport services, lock boxes, and parking fees.

Itinerary:

July 27 - Sun
-Early-morning Southwest flight 3460 to Albuquerque, NM. 8:30am arrival.
-Pick up 2 passenger vans.
-Go ride the Sandia Peak Tramway. (https://sandiapeak.com/)
-Drive to Durango, CO (4.25hrs, 225 miles)
-Stay at hotel in Durango, CO

July 28 - Mon
-Arrive at Durango train station by 7:15am.
-Depart at 8:15am from the Durango train station to Elk Park Train Stop.
-Arrive at Elk Park Train Stop at 11:18am.
-Setup camp 5.5 miles in on the trail at "5-mile meadow".
-We may go further depending on how the group is feeling. This will shorten our next day.

July 29 - Tue

Camp near the intersection of Vallecito Creek and Johnson Creek

July 30 - Wed
10.67 miles
Set up camp in Chicago Basin.

July 31 - Thu
Summit Sunlight Peak and Windom Peak.

Aug 1 - Fri
Summit North Eolus and Mount Eolus.

Aug 2 - Sat
Hike final 8 miles back (downhill) to Needleton Train Stop.
Needleton Train Stop Pick up: 10:47am
Take train to Silverton where our vans will be waiting for us.
We can explore Silverton and tour the Old Hundred Mine (https://www.minetour.com).
Time permitting, we can drive north on the Million Dollar Highway towards Ouray and then drive back to Durango, CO.
Stay at hotel in Durango, CO

Aug 3 - Sun
We need to be up and out very early!!!
Drive back to Albuquerque, NM. (4.25hrs, 225 miles)
We need to have the rental vans back by 11am.
Southwest flight 101 - 12:25pm departure.
Fly back to Austin arriving here at 3:05pm.
