Conditioning Hike - River Place Nature Trail - 5:30am, 6:20am and 7:15am

Details

Caution: This is an advanced and strenuous hike. We try to keep a quick pace to make this a challenging workout. Known as "Nature's Stairmaster", this strenuous hike is not recommended for beginners. There are 2700 steps with 1700 feet of elevation change in each direction.

Choose your own challenge level based on our 3 start times! You're welcome to join us at 5:30am, at 6:20am, or 7:15am depending on your fitness level. No matter what time you choose to start, we'll all hike and finish together. Afterwards, you're more than welcome to join us at Rudy's on 620 for breakfast tacos. We usually have 10-15 people show up for this hike. Hope to see you there!

Please RSVP for the event if you will be attending.

5:30am - 2 miles (45 minutes) This is the hardest part of the trail and usually takes 45 minutes to complete. Bring a headlamp. It will be dark for the first 30 minutes or so.
We will be starting at the Canyon Trail trailhead, hiking to Noggin' Knocker, and back. You will need a head lamp.

6:20am - 2 miles (45 minutes)
We will be starting at the Canyon Trail trailhead, hiking to Noggin' Knocker, and back.

7:15am - 5.5 miles (2hrs 15mins)
We will be starting at the Canyon Trail trailhead, hiking to the Fern Trail Trailhead and back.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On weekends, they charge a $10 fee per hiker (and $10 per dog) to hike this trail. If you'll be joining the 7:15am hike, come early and wait by the trailhead kiosk or you may need to pay the entrance fee if they are charging when you arrive. The timing can vary from week to week, but they usually start collecting fees around 7:00am.

What to bring with you: Lots of water (preferably with electrolytes) and a good pair of hiking or trail running shoes. If it's wet, or you're new to this trail, trekking poles can be a big help.

How to find us: We will be standing by the large rock at the Canyon Trail trailhead entrance.

NOTE: There are no restrooms or water at this trailhead. (There are bathrooms nearby at HEB or at 8820 Big View Dr, Austin, TX 78730)

Don't forget that our Austin Mountaineers store is now open if you would like to order something. 100% of the proceeds from the store go back into prizes and gifts for our group events.
