Mountain school and 1-day alpine climb

We're taking two days of classes offered by Colorado Mountain School in Rocky Mountain National Park, near Estes Park, CO. After that, we will do an Alpine climb in the area (exact peak/route TBD) to put our new skills to use and enjoy the mountains.

This beginner-friendly event will be a great introduction to climbing on snow for anyone who hasn't done so before, and will provide valuable skills to broaden your climbing horizons.

Schedule:
Friday, May 22: Travel to Estes Park, CO
Saturday, May 23: Mountaineering Basics class
Sunday, May 24: Crevasse Rescue class
Monday, May 25: Team alpine climb (unguided)
Tuesday, May 26: Travel back to Austin
Each of the activities is a single-day event, and we will camp between each day at an established (non-alpine) campground (location TBD). Staying in a hotel is also an option if some prefer that.

The price for this trip depends on the number of people that attend. The per-person cost for the two instruction days (combined) is:

2 people: $700
3 people: $600
4 people: $520
5 people: $460
6+ people: $440

Additional costs will include transportation to Denver, car rental, and camping/hotels (4 total nights). Gear rental (mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axe, helmet, harness) is included for the two instructional days, but will be an additional cost for our unguided climb on Monday.

The deadline to sign up for this event is Feb 20, 2026. A deposit of $100 must be paid to the event organizer by this date to secure your spot, and the remaining guide fee will be due the week prior to the event.

By confirming your attendance (RSVP) to this event, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms:

Assumption of Risk: You voluntarily assume all risks associated with participation in this event, including but not limited to risks of bodily injury, property damage, or other losses that may occur during the event. You understand that the event may involve physical activities, such as hiking or other outdoor pursuits, which carry inherent risks.
Personal Responsibility: You accept sole responsibility for your own health, safety, and well-being, as well as that of any guests you may bring to the event. If you or your guests are unwilling to accept this responsibility, you are advised not to RSVP or participate in the event.

Non-Professional Guidance: The event hosts, organizers, and facilitators are not professional guides or trained personnel. They do not assume any responsibility or liability for your safety, health, or conduct during the event.

Release of Liability: By participating in this event, you hereby release and discharge the event hosts, organizers, and any affiliated individuals or entities from any and all liability, claims, demands, or causes of action arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, including death, that may be sustained by you or your guests during or as a result of participating in this event. There will be an additional waiver from Colorado Mountain School that you must sign in order to participate.

This event is a voluntary gathering of individuals with shared interests engaging in recreational activities. By RSVPing, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by the terms of this waiver.
