Orienteering Race at McKinney Falls State Park
Details
We had a great time and learned a lot at the orienteering event in November, so let's do it again!
There is a tutorial for beginners at ~9:15 AM and the actual event starts at 10 AM. We'll have a group for the intermediate (orange) and/or difficult (red) courses, or you can take it on by yourself at any difficulty. Don't panic if you're a first-timer, you'll be learning as you go and the team will work together on direction-finding.
Recommended equipment is normal hiking/trail running gear (long pants recommended) and a base-plate style compass. If you don't have one, the Suunto A-10 is a great choice and you can pick one up locally at REI for ~$25.
For more information on the event, see here: https://austinoc.com/Events
To join the group, you must pay the $15 fee to David by Friday 12/5 (1 week in advance) and make your difficulty preference known so I can sign us up together. If you are going to participate on your own, you must register and pay for the event directly at the link above. I'll send reminders for this as the event gets closer.
We will also try to arrange carpools so we can take advantage of state park passes to avoid the park entrance fee. Otherwise it is $6/person to get in.
Cancellation policy: If you will not be able to make the event, please be polite and change your RSVP to "not going" so that we don't wait for you.
