Young Sierrans: 5th Annual Tubing Trip & Service Project

Details

The Young Sierrans are headed to the Guadalupe River for their fourth annual river float and cleanup! Guadalupe River beckons thousands of tubers every summer to its cool waters, and floating the river has become an iconic summer pastime for the Central Texas area. But with this pastime comes the harsh reality that not everyone who floats the Guadalupe is responsibly disposing of their trash, turning sections of the river frequented by tubers into a wasteland of aluminum cans and other garbage.

This is a Young Sierran event organized for 20- and 30- somethings. Many of the participants will fall within that age range, but anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to join us. This event is not suitable for children under 18. All participants must be able to swim, no lifeguard on duty.

Join us as we float the Guadalupe River responsibly, while also picking up trash along the way. We’ll start at Whitewater Sports in New Braunfels, arriving at 10:20am, for tube rentals and the start of our river adventure! For those interested in carpooling, we can meet at the parking lot of Walmart at 710 E Ben White Blvd, Austin, TX 78704, (departing there at 9:20am) where participants can arrange their own carpooling. Those not interested in carpooling can meet us at Whitewater Sports:
( 11860 FM306 #2, New Braunfels, TX 78132 ) at 10:20am.

Tube rentals at Whitewater Sports are $19 per person with the coupon available here: http://www.floattheguadalupe.com/pricing/ , each participant is responsible for paying his or her own fee and printing off their own coupon. Whitewater Sports accepts cash or credit card. The website also provides a link to their printable liability waiver; if completed in advance, it will save some time once we arrive. The tube rental fee also covers parking and shuttle service to the river entrance point, as well as back to our cars when the float is over. We’ll be doing the 2 hour float.

Bring snacks and drinks of your choice. No glass containers are allowed on the river. Coolers are okay, and Whitewater Sports will give us a free cooler tube for every 4 paid tube rentals. Equipment for trash pickup will be provided.

Following the river float and end of the official event, some may wish to take a short drive to the historic town of Gruene, Texas…home to Texas’ oldest dance hall and the Gristmill River Restaurant, a fine option for a late lunch.
