Let's hike about 3-4 miles along Nolan Creek at an easy "stop and look" pace. The historic Chisholm Cattle Trail also went along this trail. We'll start hiking across the street from the museum and head north along Nolan Creek and wind up at Mary Hardin Baylor University. We can do a brief tour of the campus.

After the hike, we'll walk over to the Gin on Nolan Creek for lunch.

After lunch, we'll walk over to the Bell County Museum and see the Gault Archaeological exhibit that's on the first floor of the museum. The Gault site has been inhabited for 20,000 years and is one of the oldest sites in North America and has produced over a million artifacts. Yes, it's even older than the Clovis period. The actual archaeological site is several miles west of Belton and is not open to the public.
Dogs are okay if on a six foot leash and well behaved. The restaurant allows dogs on the first floor and the museum only allows service dogs.

Most of the trail is fairly level and has some gradual upgrades.

It takes about an hour to get to Belton from central Austin.
The Sierra Club does not organize carpools.

Participants must sign a Liability Waiver at the trailhead. You may view the waiver document: https://tinyurl.com/SCSignUpSheet2020 .
