We are going to a have class to get people started with IOT (Internet of Thing) using the ESP8266 Chip & node. This class assume that you are starting from scratch so no experience is required. We’ll go over all the basics that you will need and at the end you will have built wifi / remote controlled Christmas lights.

The first part of the class will a quick presentation explaining the all the technology. We’ll go over all the theory and the code behind it. This should take about 10 to 20 minutes and you will have a basic understanding of code, the chip, and the node server.

The rest of the class we’ll be working through the workbook and building the system. The workbook we’ll take you through creating it step by step. After you are done with that you can use the rest of the time to ask questions and play around with the code.

Node JS:

A library that allows you build and control servers with javascript. We’ll be using that create and store the patterns we send to the chips.

ESP8266 Chip:

An inexpensive wifi chip that is used a lot in IOT. We’ll be using this control the lights and process the pattern sent from the node server.

Video Page of it in action.
