What we’re about
Welcome, young explorers and their families! Our group is for elementary-aged children (and their parents) who are curious about the birds and natural wonders of Austin. Whether you're just learning to tell a Cardinal from a Mockingbird, or you've already spotted your first Painted Bunting, all experience levels are welcome here.
What We Do:
- Gentle morning walks at local birding spots (Lady Bird Lake, Barton Creek Greenbelt, neighborhood parks)
- Learn to identify birds by sight AND sound
- Keep nature journals and share discoveries
- Practice patience and quiet observation
- Build friendships with other young naturalists and their families
Our Philosophy:
Every expert birder once stood exactly where you are now: wondering which bird makes that sound, excited by their first Cardinal sighting. We celebrate the beginner's mind! Being brand new to something is not a weakness but an adventure waiting to unfold. Through birdwatching, children discover that the world rewards the observan. Those who notice details, listen carefully, and find excitement in small wonders.
All ages welcome, designed especially for elementary students (ages 5-12). Parents must accompany children.
