What weโre about
Do you like horror movies? Do you like chatting about them with friends but all your friends hate horror movies? If so, this may be the group for you! ๐
We will share our love of horror movies, chat about our favorites, get recommendations, and have a laugh about all things spooky.
Whether you like a little scare every now and then or love all things terrifying, all are welcome! Everyone is free to love, hate, or feel indifferent about any horror movie. This is a safe space. โบ๏ธ
Here are the kind of events we host:
- Happy Horror Hours ๐ป๐น - We'll pick a horror genre/sub-genre (e.g. haunted houses) and create a Watch List for the event. You can watch all or some of them beforehand. Think of it like a book club but with movies.
- Horror Movie Outings ๐ฑ๐ฌ๐ฟ - Let's go to the cinema and watch a horror flick! We'll pick a movie, theater, date, and time. You'll buy your own ticket and attend the screening. Afterwards, we'll go somewhere to chat about the movie.
- Horror Movie Online Watch Parties ๐งโโ๏ธ๐งโโ๏ธ๐ป - Join us on Teleparty for virtual movie night to watch horror movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Max, and more. (You will need your own account for the streaming service to watch.)
- Horror Trivia ๐โ - Every few months, we'll have (or attend) a horror-themed trivia night.

See all- Happy Horror Hour - Grief through the Horror Lens ๐๐ฅบ๐ฑPour House, Austin, TX
Yup, this one will be a bit heavy. Buckle in. ๐
I've been on a personal journey lately with grief after experiencing a significant loss. (I will not be delving into my personal life at this event, but tackling loss and grief as broader topics when it comes to horror movies.)
I've been especially interested in watching horror films as a means to process grief. It may be odd, but horror films as an expression of grief have been some of my favorite films because they have been the most meaningful to me. (Yes, I also very much like to watch a masked man run around the woods chopping up teens. We are all complex creatures!)
The films on the Watch List are ones I've seen multiple times, and you've probably seen some of them at least once. I'll be rewatching these films for the discussion, but if you remember enough of them to talk about them, you can skip the rewatch. However, I have not seen the movies on the Bonus list so I'll be watching those as fresh watches.
What should you expect from this event? A more serious discussion about the topic of grief and how horror movies accurately (or inaccurately) depict it. It will be a deeper discussion, but not depressing. We'll have a drink and share our thoughts.

HOW HAPPY HORROR HOUR WORKS
Before the event โฆ
- Watch the movies from the Watch List at home on your own. We do not watch movies at the actual event. Think of it like a book club. It's not a requirement to watch all the movies on the Watch List to attend. However, watching at least a few is highly encouraged as you'll have a lot more fun during the discussion.
- If you have content sensitivities, you can look up movies on doesthedogdie.com and/or unconsentingmedia.org to review warnings.
- Keep your RSVP up-to-date. If you can't make it out, update your RSVP at least 24 hours beforehand. If there is a waitlist, attendance will be taken and "no shows" will be marked.

- Weโre a friendly welcoming bunch and we love new folks! ๐
- Please purchase something (even if just a soda) while youโre at the restaurant. Theyโre running a business but being super awesome by giving us a space to meet for free. Also, please tip our servers. Weโre a big bunch to wrangle.
- Happy Horror Hour - Beauty Standards ๐โโ๏ธ๐โค๏ธโ๐ฅ๐๐๐ฉฑ๐Grata's Pizzeria & Pub, Austin , TX
If Looks Could Kill...
In the world of beauty there is a thin line between gorgeous and grotesque. For this happy horror hour we'll dig deeper into body horror by exploring beauty standards and the subversion thereof. Prepare yourselves for body transformations, deadly beauty products, and killer competition in the cutthroat industries of fashion and beauty. Things are about to get pretty... then very very ugly.

- Death Becomes Her (1992) (Amazon)
- Exte: Hair Extensions (2007) (Shudder, Tubi)
- The Neon Demon (2016) (Amazon) (pictured)
- The Ugly Stepsister (2025) (Shudder)

- Let's Go to Bat City Scaregrounds! ๐ฆ๐ป๐ฆBat City Scaregrounds , Buda, TX
Spooky Season is upon us! Let's all go to a Haunted House! Scratch that, let's go to THREE!
On Sunday, October 19th we'll head on down to Bat City Scaregrounds in Buda, TX and scare ourselves silly. If you've never been to (or heard of) Bat City, here's a description from their website:
"Bat City Scaregrounds is a fully immersive, multi-acre entertainment complex dedicated to ALL THINGS HALLOWEEN! We are open every October and host three highly detailed haunted houses, live music, Vegas-style performances, seasonal food and so much more!"
So what are you waiting for? Get your tickets today! General Admission is currently only $27.81 (including fees), but the price may go up, so the sooner you get your tickets, the better. We are each responsible for purchasing our own tickets, and please purchase General Admission, no Fast Passes. We want to stay together as a group with no one skipping ahead. I promise we'll have time to do all three attractions.
And no refunds unless it closes for bad weather.
HERE'S THE PLAN:
The gates open at 7:30pm, so we will be meeting near the front gate between 7pm to 7:15pm, then wait for the gates to open. Please don't be late, and please wear horror-themed clothing, if you are able to, so that we can easily identify each other.
Once we've entered the park, we will take a group photo in front of the throne at the front entrance before tackling the first of the three haunted houses. We will play it by ear from there. Gates close at 10pm, so we should have plenty of time to do everything there is to do.
DISCORD:
I will be checking in with everyone on the General Chat channel of the Austin Horror Movie Club Discord server.
Here is the link to our Discord
In the AHMC Discord we are always having lively discussions about all things horror related. If you attend this event, or any other event hosted by the Austin Horror Movie Club, you can be granted access to our "members only" channels.
For those of you who don't do Discord, I will also keep my eye on the comments of this Meetup post.
PREGAME:
Bat City Scaregrounds does not sell alcohol, or allow alcohol on the premises. So, if you want to get your drink on, or just socialize a little more before heading to the park, then meet us at Pinballz Kingdom from 5pm to 6:45pm. They have food, drinks, and all the games you could want to play, as well as bumper carts and more. And it's literally right down the road from Bat City.
Attending Pinballz is totally optional.
Here is the address:Pinballz Kingdom
15201 S I-35 Frontage Rd
Buda, TX 78610Anyway, that's the plan. I hope to see you all there. I'm limiting this group to 40, and you may bring 1 guest. If you end up on the waitlist, DM me and maybe we can squeeze you in. And please only RSVP if you're serious about going. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below and I'll answer them to the best of my knowledge.
