What we’re about
Do you like horror movies? Do you like chatting about them with friends but all your friends hate horror movies? If so, this may be the group for you! 😁
We will share our love of horror movies, chat about our favorites, get recommendations, and have a laugh about all things spooky.
Whether you like a little scare every now and then or love all things terrifying, all are welcome! Everyone is free to love, hate, or feel indifferent about any horror movie. This is a safe space. ☺️
Here are the kind of events we host:
- Happy Horror Hours 👻🍹 - We'll pick a horror genre/sub-genre (e.g. haunted houses) and create a Watch List for the event. You can watch all or some of them beforehand. Think of it like a book club but with movies.
- Horror Movie Outings 😱🎬🍿 - Let's go to the cinema and watch a horror flick! We'll pick a movie, theater, date, and time. You'll buy your own ticket and attend the screening. Afterwards, we'll go somewhere to chat about the movie.
- Horror Movie Online Watch Parties 🧛♂️🧟♀️💻 - Join us on Teleparty for virtual movie night to watch horror movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Max, and more. (You will need your own account for the streaming service to watch.)
- Horror Trivia 💀❓ - Every few months, we'll have (or attend) a horror-themed trivia night.
Like horror books? Check out my other group Austin Horror Book Club!

HOW HAPPY HORROR HOUR WORKS
Before the event …
- Watch the movies from the Watch List at home on your own. We do not watch movies at the actual event. Think of it like a book club. It's not a requirement to watch all the movies on the Watch List to attend. However, watching at least a few is highly encouraged as you'll have a lot more fun during the discussion.
- If you have content sensitivities, you can look up movies on doesthedogdie.com and/or unconsentingmedia.org to review warnings.
- Keep your RSVP up-to-date. If you can't make it out, update your RSVP at least 24 hours beforehand. If there is a waitlist, attendance will be taken and "no shows" will be marked.
At the event …
- We’re a friendly welcoming bunch and we love new folks! 😍
- Please purchase something (even if just a soda) while you’re at the restaurant. They’re running a business but being super awesome by giving us a space to meet for free. Also, please tip our servers. We’re a big bunch to wrangle.
- Happy Horror Hour - Director's Showcase (David Cronenberg) 🫠🫀👂Grata's Pizzeria & Pub, Austin , TX
My movies are body-conscious. The first fact of human existence is the human body. If you get away from physical reality, you're fudging, in fantasy land, not coming to grips with what violence does.
- David CronenbergYou asked for Body Horror, so you're getting it. Since we really haven't done much body horror before, the most logical place to start is with David Cronenberg - the principal originator of the genre. Be warned, these films are not for the squeamish. If you have a weak stomach and sensitivities towards visceral body transformations and infectious diseases, then you might want to sit this one out. However, for those of you who enjoy the intertwining of the physical, psychological, and technological, and don't mind when things get gross, then you'll be sure to enjoy these films. Don't say I didn't warn ya!
WATCH LIST

- Rabid (1977) - Shudder
- The Brood (1979) - Max
- Dead Ringers (1988) - Pluto, Hoopla
- Crimes of the Future (2022) - Hulu (pictured)
