For our June Python meetup, we have a special treat: Travis Oliphant, the creator of Numpy and Scipy, will be speaking about his new project "Plures", which is a refactoring of NumPy capabilities into low-level libraries and high-level interfaces. It's great timing for this talk, given the recent announcement of the first-ever grant funding for NumPy itself from the Moore Foundation: https://www.numfocus.org/blog/numpy-receives-first-ever-funding-thanks-to-moore-foundation/

Afterwards, Peter Wang will "give a talk" about some command-line tools for data, including Python-oriented ones. The "give a talk" is in quotes because I hope this is an audience-participation-heavy event, where people can suggest their favorite tools and tricks for doing data munging at the command line.

We also have time for lightning talks, so please leave a comment on the Meetup.com page or message me directly if you'd like to speak for 5-10 minutes about a project you're working on or a cool library you think others should know about.

Our meetup will be at the Atlassian office at 7pm. Food and drink will be sponsored by Continuum Analytics to highlight some of the new job openings they've recently put out.
