Talk 1: Collier King: FastAPI - A new and exciting Python web development framework
What is FastAPI and why is it making waves in the Python web development ecosystem?
We will discuss its short history, immense popularity and the features that set this exciting new project apart from other Python web frameworks.
We will also cover some of the potential use cases for FastAPI as well some general design and architecture principles for developing apps.
Finally we will take a high level look at the Roadmap for the Austin FastAPI Developers Meetup and what's coming up in future sessions.
Bio: Collier King is a freelance Software and Data Analytics consultant for his company, FuseCloud Solutions and the organizer of the Austin FastAPI Developers Meetup group. With his financial and marketing backgrounds, Collier has built his career applying technology and analytics in business. He has a strong passion for automating things, data visualization and everything Python. In his free time Collier enjoys biking, hiking, camping and BBQing stuff.
Talk 2: Gil Forsyth - xonsh : I don't remember how to write a for loop in Bash
Can you write a for loop in Bash without checking Stack Overflow? I can't.
What about delimiting an output string on a non-whitespace character? Is that even possible? (Technically yes)
Come and learn about xonsh and use Python on the command line alongside all the unix-y tools you know and hate/love.
Bio: Gil Forsyth is a Senior Machine Learning Engineer. He followed the common career path of Japanese language specialist -> administrative assistant -> mechanical engineer -> computational fluid dynamicist -> data scientist -> software engineer -> machine learning engineer.
Gil contributes to several projects in the PyData ecosystem and is a core maintainer of xonsh and helps maintain dask. He served as the program chair for the Scientific Computing with Python (SciPy) conference from 2016 to 2020.
