The Austin Python Meetup Monthly Meetup

Details

As a special holidays season event we are opening up to other groups. We will be joined by the Austin Hispanic Hackers Meetup, and some Go hackers.

Eddy Reyes will talk about a joined topic: Go For Pythonistas

Eddy will be giving an introduction and overview of the Go programming language geared towards the Pythonista. Eddy will briefly go over the whys and hows of transitioning to Go (while still loving and sometimes missing Python). Then, we will live code a simple web application that showcases several of Go's features, and we will also briefly go over some of the similarities and differences between Go and Python.

Also, Ilan Schnell will talk about the Python slice object:

Even though almost all Python developers use the slice objects in their everyday work, the slice object usually stays hidden, such that Python users do not have to interact with it directly. We are going to take a closer look at this object, in order to better understand how multidimensional indexing works.

After the meetup, we will reconvene at a bar for further discussions. This month we will go to The Russia House at 307 E 5th St, Austin, TX 78701.

The Capital Factory has (a limited number of) coupons for $7 parking after 5pm in the Omni Parking lot. Remember to ask for a validation ticket from Capital Factory staff.
