I hope you all are excited to kick off 2014!

Our main presentation will be given by Philip Ellis, who will talk about doing data processing with Python. His talk will focus on using Python for ETL - extract, transform and load - which are extremely common in business data processing. The talk will cover retrieving data from a variety of data sources, some techniques for transforming data, and some issues to be aware of when carrying out this kind of work in Python. Philip will also demonstrate some short examples and answer questions.

Andrew Donoho will give a short talk about asynchronous computing, entitled "A Maze of Twisty Little Co-Routines, All Alike". As the future of asynchronous Python appears to be heading towards co-routines and generators, this should be a nice overview of techniques that people should be conversant about.

Finally, depending on time & interest, Peter Wang will lead/moderate/instigate/conflagrate a discussion about Python 3 and Python 2, in light of the recent blogs and discussions about Python 3 adoption and what it means for the community and ecosystem. This will be at the end of the meetup, so everyone should be well-lubricated for a rational and level-headed discussion about this totally non-controversial topic. Bring your stories and opinions!
