Saw an interesting lecture, Python was mentioned

Last night I went to the Austin Forum talk about "Cyberinfrastructure to feed the world" where they had speakers from the Texas Advanced Computing Center talking about the programming challenges associated with growing food. There are several areas where they use supercomputing, figuring out the relationship between genes and plant structures, etc. They've set up several types of tools to generally help plant scientists do their investigations without having to become computer experts, all organized into a system they call iPlant.

I found it interesting that Python programming was mentioned several times, people seem to prototype their analysis methods in Python as well as work on libraries to make it easier to implement their algorithms. Here's a link to the talk: http://www.austinforu... and they're on facebook.
