If after getting up the rig with Reyna, you get hooked, mark 7/19/2025 to come to the training orientation day - who knows, maybe we would even go around to NYC for the 250 anniversary celebrations?
Even if you won't stick for the duration of the program, but have maritime interest and never been on Elissa, the official Tall Ship of State of Texas, or any other tall ships before, come the Saturday on the 7/19/25
During the orientation you would walk thru the ship areas normally closed to the public, would have an opportunity to do a rope-work and even climb the training yard to loose/furl a training sail, if desired.
Pre-registration at the GHF site is preferred as it would help organizers to gauge attendance: https://www.galvestonhistory.org/news/sail-training-on-board-the-1877-tall-ship-elissa
Additionally, consider joining the 2nd full day of training on 8/2/25 (8:30-5:00), even if you would drop thereafter, as during the 2nd day you would be exposed to more interesting stuff, and returning crew will likely be climbing on the rig for their recertification.
It would be a hot, but fun and interesting experience, and afterwards you could chill down with a can of cold Elissa branded beer and chat with the Port Captain, Bosun, and other Elissa volunteers.
No fee, no experience is necessary, it is "free" (you pay the gas). Registration not required, but preferred: https://www.galvestonhistory.org/news/sail-training-on-board-the-1877-tall-ship-elissa
Come as you are, learn and have fun under the sun!
