"Geld aus dünner Luft"

Das Thema Geldschöpfung erfordert exakte Behandlung. Warengeld, Fiatgeld, Kreditgeld einerseits, Zentralisierung/Monopol, Dezentralisierung, freier Wettbewerb, Annahmeverpflichtung andererseits, Kombinationen gibt es viele, und der Teufel steckt im Detail.

Unser Gastredner, Prof. George Selgin ist Senior Fellow am Cato Institute und ein Mitbegründer der "Modernen Freibanken-Theorie". Er präsentiert seinen neuesten Aufsatz: "Banks Are Intermediaries of Loanable Funds" zu diesem Disput, in dem er sich dem Hauptstrom der Zentralbanker entgegenstellt.

Vielleicht beehrt uns Prof. Selgin mit einem persönlichen Besuch in Wien, sonst spricht er per Videocall. Weiteres nach Abklärung.

Ich freue mich auf unsere anschließende Sokratische Debatte. Der Impuls ist auf Englisch, die Debatte ist je nach Sprachkenntnis der Teilnehmer auf Deutsch oder Englisch.

Dear "Austrians",

"Money from Thin Air"

The topic of money creation need exact treatment. Commodity money, credit money, fiat money on one hand, centralisation/monopoly, decentralisation, free competition, legal tender on the other. There are many combinations and the devil is in the detail.

Our guest speaker, Prof. George Selgin is a Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute and a key proponent of the "Modern Free Banking Theory". He will present his latest paper: "Banks Are Intermediaries of Loanable Funds" in this dispute, where he opposes the mainstream position of central bankers. Prof. Selgin may honour us in Vienna in person otherwise the talk will by video call. Stay tuned.

I look forward to our subsequent Socratic debate. The impulse is in English, the debate in German or English, depending on the language skills of the participants.

As usual, we will meet in "Hayek Hall" at Hayek Institute, Grünangergasse 1, Vienna.
