Liebe Austrians,

"Deglobalisierung"

In den letzten 200 Jahren ist der Anteil des internationalen Handels von 5% auf 25% des weltweiten BIP gestiegen. Dieser Trend führt zu mehr Wohlstand, höherer Produktivität, und technischem Fortschritt, sagen Befürworter. Andere wünschen eine Umkehr – besagte Deglobalisierung – um die lokale Wirtschaft zu schützen, Abhängigkeiten zu reduzieren und geopolitische Risiken zu streuen.

Es ist uns eine Ehre, diesmal Herrn Peter Brabeck-Lethmathe als Impulsgeber am Hayek Institut begrüßen zu dürfen. Der gebürtige Österreicher ist ehemaliger CEO und nun Präsident Emeritus von Nestle. In seiner Biographie "Aufstiege" beschreibt er seine Karriere in dem weltweit agierenden Konzern und kann aus praktischer Erfahrung eine persönliche Sicht auf die Globalisierung und ihren Gegenstrom geben.

Ich freue mich auf unsere anschließende Sokratische Debatte zu diesem Gegensatz. Impuls und Debatte sind je nach Sprachkenntnis der Teilnehmer auf Deutsch oder Englisch.

Dear "Austrians",

"Deglobalisation"

In the past 200 years, the share of international trade vs. global GDP rose from 5% to 25%. Proponents credit this trend with more prosperity, higher productivity, and technical progress. Others wish for a reversal – said "Deglobalisation" – to protect the local economy, reduce dependencies, and to diversify risks.

We are honoured to welcome Mr. Peter Brabeck-Lethmathe as impulse speaker at the Hayek Institute. Austrian by birth, the former CEO and now President Emeritus of Nestle recently published his biography "Ascensions" where he describes his career with the worldwide corporation. He can tap into his practical real-world experience for a personal view on globalisation and its counter-trend.

I look forward to our subsequent Socratic debate. The impulse is in English, the debate in German or English, depending on the language skills of the participants.

As usual, we will meet in "Hayek Hall" at Hayek Institute, Grünangergasse 1, Vienna.
