Oli Cooper is the Director of OCTheatrical and his passion for theatre and technology began at an early age. A graduate of the Central School of Speech and Drama in Technical & Production Management, he has worked in diverse roles across the theatre, events, and arts industries.
His early career saw him freelance in and out of London, developing expertise in carpentry, metalwork, rigging, and automation. However, it wasn’t until April 2012 that Oli’s full-time CAD career truly took off—a pivotal moment sparked by a failed interview.

Oli began as a full-time draughtsman at the National Theatre on a short-term contract, which later became a permanent role. Here, he honed his skills in 2D and 3D CAD/CAM software and deepened his fascination with design processes.

After leaving the National Theatre, Oli focused on construction draughting at Illusion Design & Construct. Here, he encountered the challenges of commercial operations compared to arts-funded theatres and institutions. These experiences over the past decade led Oli to found OCTheatrical, with the goal of bridging the gap between creative and commercial aspirations.

Since founding OCTheatrical, Oli has created designs for stages worldwide and contributed to installations for Expo 2020 and new venues like Soho Place. He is passionate about developing both his own skills and those of his colleagues, firmly believing in sharing knowledge openly for the betterment of the craft.
